Now, I know that this is like the super-geekiest thing in the world to do, and I have also heard that apparently some EXTREMELY snobbish (and racists, thanks) people think that Cosplay is something only Asians should do. Well?
TOUGH.
That's the stupidest, most elitist thing I have EVER heard and I refuse to countenance any such attitude. Especially when the comparisons are drawn between professional Asian cosplay and costumes made by unskilled but enthusiastic Americans.
...Youtube is bad for my blood-pressure.
Anyway. Cosplay and cons. My con season is rather small in terms of cons attended, but pretty spaced out! It starts with a literature con where I'm a guest lecturer and ends with an anime con where I'm partially in charge of security--which means LOTS of shouting on my part, and occasionally bawling out some Naruto or so whose mother shouldn't have let him (or her) out of the house--and I love every minute of it. Now that the semester is INCHES away from being over, I can finally put some thought into (making money so I don't starve) cosplay for the upcoming cons!
I don't usually dress up for the fantasy literature con in feb, so I sort of don't count that one. The others, however....
I've tried to do Suikoden cosplay over and over and over--and NO ONE KNOWS IT. And I KNOW that's not the point of cosplay, but I do rather get sick of people giving me a totally puzzled look and scratching their heads and being all "Who are you again?" In many ways I MUCH prefer the sort of reaction I get with my Xigbar costume--which is usually a fangirl shriek from across a room: "OH EM GEE XIGGY!"
I think I just want attention XD
At any rate, this year is going to be a Final Fantasy year. As I was going down the list of Cosplay I've done, it suddenly dawned on me that I have done NO cosplay from FFVII--which was my first RPG and my first great video game love. Therefore, I now have a Lucrecia Crescent (NOT Dirge of Cerberus wussy Lucrecia who makes me want to vomit >_>
Pictures will be forth-coming. Also forth-coming will be a rant about Square-Enix and their descent into the depths of series-milking and how it's practically destroyed both FFVII and FFX for me. Also a commentary on what, precisely, is bothering me about the whole Twilight thing NOW, Like, it's something new--not just my same old rant rant rant.
RANT!~

I actually enjoy rants. X3
And yay for cosplay! I've heard the same thing about American cosplayers before, and I've heard similar arguments as to why Americans (or anyone not Japanese) shouldn't be drawing in manga/anime type style. It's ridiculous. Thing is, the arguments make me feel bad, because I'm always worried that someone is going to call me "Fat [character name]". -_- So I'm now permanently hesitant to cosplay. T_T

And yeah, I've heard the argument about manga/anime too. Well, if they want US to stop then all of THEM need to quit drawing characters who look western (Sailor Moon, anyone?) and composing music in the western styles, and stop wearing western clothes. It's just absurd.
